Article (Bedroom Ergonomics: Main Principles)

All of us in one way or another try to bring more coziness into the interior. For someone, coziness is candles, a warm plaid and cocoa. Someone likes minimalism with clear lines. For someone it is important to have a large closet and full-length mirror. But we all want to enjoy being in one space or another. Today we will talk about an important component of any home: the bedroom.

So, how to arrange the furniture in the room in such a way that it combined, brought maximum benefit and created a pleasant atmosphere. There are some basic principles, following which you can create a base. And then bring in your own unique details that are important to you.

1. Where should you put the bed?

The bedroom is always about sleeping, so the bed should be the first thing to pay attention.

-It is not recommended to put the bed near the window, because it is not possible to get close to the window opening and there is a danger of drafts.

-It’s a good idea to center the bed in the room, keeping a distance of at least 70 cm on each side to allow for free movement.

-A single bed could be against a wall.

-It wouldn’t be better to have a headboard against the wall to give you inner peace and comfort. If it does not have a headboard, it can be replaced by tall furniture or a decorative partition

-Sleeping against a window or door is also not recommended. Not only will it be less pleasant to wake up, when the light from the window or door will blind you in the morning and spoil your mood. It also has to do with our processes in the body during sleep, the interruption of which may not have the best effect on us

2. A place to put your clothes.

Moving on. After waking up, we think about what we want to spend the day in and open our closet.

-The inside of the closet should be well lit by daylight. It would be a good idea not to put it near a window, because when you open the door you block the light.

-A corner cabinet is a great solution for the bedroom. It uses the space to the maximum, while eliminating “blind spots” on the sides.

-It should be noted that a good closet is a closet that does not take up much space and is not conspicuous. For small rooms, a closet built into the wall will play an important role

3. Where will my books stand?

Another bedroom attribute is a dresser. Or a dressing table. Or a shelving unit. Anything you want. Furniture that serves an additional role can stand anywhere, as long as:

-If there is no mirror on the furniture. If it is present, it is better not to put it against the bed. The mirror expands the space, so not everyone is comfortable during sleep. It is better to put a mirror between the bed and the window.

-It is a common tradition to put nightstands at the side of the bed. It is convenient, practical and does not cause discomfort.

-It is better to place the desk so you can’t see the bed. This way the brain will be better tuned to work and will not be distracted by the place associated with rest. If there is a possibility, it is better not to put the desk in the bedroom at all.

-Books, vinyl record collections, photos and other things that bring you joy can be placed in front of the bed. Waking up, you would get a perfect mood

4. What to do if you don’t have much space?

Small bedrooms are more of a plus than a minus. Creating an atmosphere of coziness and tranquility is much easier.

-As for furniture, it is better to choose multifunctional attributes, such as a transformer bed.

-Also, you need to use as much unused space as possible. The place under the bed to create so that it becomes a storage space (surrounded by shelving, drawers, or leave one large space).
